Jobbeschreibung

Keep your finger on the pulse Scientific Assistant (f/m/d)/Doctoral Student (f/m/d) Institute of Applied Medical Informatics – University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf Salary grade 13 TVöD/VKA (internal); externally linked to the collective wage agreement We are the UKE – the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf [Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf]. A pulsating centre of health in the heart of Hamburg. When you are surrounded by that much energy and when progress sets the pace, no two days are the same. More than 13,600 employees with very different responsibilities are united by the same goal: ensuring health and well-being. The professorship for Applied Medical Informatics (IAM), newly created in February 2021, brings together complex medical data. In partnership with experts, it generates knowledge that can be effectively used against diseases, which leads to a deeper understanding of the disease and/or to a more successful treatment of patients. Our dedicated, agile team of individual talents creates and publishes innovative processes as well as customized methods and tools for physicians and researchers to open up heterogeneous data sets for medical research, to enable interdisciplinary and international collaborations, and simplify complex analyses. This position is temporary until 03/31/2024 and may be part-time. An extension is planned. The goal of personalized medicine is to offer each patient an individualized treatment based on a comprehensive molecular, cellular and functional analysis. We want to support physicians in this by automating the entire process. An IT component is to link different internal and external databases with each other and evaluate the collected information with regard to the individual characteristics, e.g. the molecular findings. This includes gene variants, drugs, clinical studies as well as publications and pathways. From this information, the IT tool should then use this information to rank variants whose targeted treatment is likely to be successful and to make recommendations for treatment or at least point out interesting correlations to the user that can hardly be grasped by humans alone. The portal learns from the interaction between the medical experts and the portal and can improve itself independently. Previously unrecognized correlations become visible, better treatable options up- or downstream of an altered protein are offered, and automatic analyses show the current response to personalized therapy. The focus of your work will be the further design and implementation of such an IT component. You will receive support from software developers, AI specialists, and the whole team. The developments will be closely coordinated with national partners and will flow into an open-source software project. The deployment will take place at several university medicine sites in Germany and Europe. A major focus of the portal is the support of molecular tumour boards, but other disciplines besides oncology, such as cardiology, will also be considered. Independent processing of project tasks in close consultation with the interdisciplinary team Collaboration on the creation of an IT system for the management of external and internal knowledge Implementation of automated analyses, e.g. to propose therapies that are tailored to the individual geno- and phenotype Publication of results in international scientific journals Possibility of further scientific qualification (e.g. doctorate) Statistical evaluations as well as collaboration in the preparation of scientific publications and grant applications, including documentation of research results Degree in natural science or a related field Highly motivated with an interest to work in an interdisciplinary team Good communication skills and excellent command of English. An innovative and family-friendly working environment in the middle of Hamburg (cooperation for childcare, free vacation care) Participation in extensive training and continuing education programs offered by our UKE Academy for Education and Careers and diverse introductory events An attractive company pension plan as well as the use of a wide range of health and prevention offers that have won numerous awards A varied, self-determined job in an interdisciplinary team with very good working conditions Welcome to the UKE Would you like to learn more about the UKE as an employer and about what we have to offer? > You can find out more here With more than 140 different professions in various areas – including nursing, medical/therapeutical and administrative/technical professions as well as research and teaching – we provide an ideal environment for personal and professional development.
