Artificial Intelligence (AI) is growing into the health sector where increasing implementation of AI in various medical settings will have a major impact on patient care: AI-enabled tools offer the attractive prospect of enabling healthcare professionals to find solutions for complex problems in a time-efficient manner. AI systems do entail economic and social benefits, but they also bear risks. The PTB is working towards minimising these risks by providing a sound basis for trustworthy AI systems. To reinforce our interdisciplinary team in AI research for the duration of 3 years starting by 1 June 2021, we are looking for: 10 Early Stage Researchers (PhD students or PostDocs) specializing in explainability, robustness and uncertainty of AI systems in medicine Remuneration group 13 TVöD Bund (100% for postdocs, 85% for PhD students) Employment will be either in Braunschweig [BS] or in Berlin [B], depending on the particular project. Research projects to choose from: Towards standardized quality control for artificial intelligence systems in critical care [B] Machine learning and uncertainty quantification for bioelectromagnetic inverse solutions and signal separation methods [B] Advancing the theory and practice of machine learning model explanations in biomedicine [B] Invertible neural networks for resolving the hemodynamic inverse problem [B] Robust machine learning-based quantitative magnetic resonance imaging [B] Active learning using Fisher information [B] Uncertainty in deep learning versus conventional statistics [B] Artificial intelligence and metabolite markers in diagnosis and prognosis of Parkinson's disease [BS] Artificial intelligence-based image enhancement for reduced radiation exposure in computed tomography imaging [BS] Deep learning-based dosimetry in medical x-ray imaging [BS] Uncertainty of artificial intelligence-based dose prediction compared to Monte Carlo methods [B] Incorporation of spatial regularization and uncertainty estimations into magnetic-resonance parametric mapping [B] Accelerating radiation transport simulations in radiation medicine by machine learning [B] You will perform your research as part of our interdisciplinary team and linked to partners from academia within a framework program (curriculum in English) that fosters interdisciplinary exchange and pooling of knowledge.
